I was amazed at the standard of workmanship

I required the rear chassis cross member of my 1994 Defender replacing with one I would supply myself suitably galvanised and powder coated.
I had contacted beforehand three other well know Land Rover garages in Gloucestershire for comments and quotes, none of which I found to be very positive, tending to put obstacles in the way, all with high quotes for just the labour.
I then contacted GX as I was unhappy with the people that had already examined the vehicle and their relatively negative attitudes about what they could and couldn't do. The mechanic that would actually do the work at GX examined the existing cross member was very positive and I was given a written estimate a few days later that was about 55% of the previous quotes.
I dropped the Defender off by arrangement and was given a loaner vehicle, something I certainly wouldn't have got at the other garages.
On collection of the vehicle I was amazed at the standard of workmanship, the weld joints could barely be identified or seen and the attention to detailing including waxoyling was wonderful. I had absolutely nothing to do to finish off anything myself. The mechanic who executed the job approached me directly afterwards to discuss everything that had been done.
I don't believe that anyone could have done a better job, yet I had also saved myself a lot of money. Reception staff at GX were also extremely polite and helpful.
If you want cross member replacement work done on a Defender, it may be work considering travelling a further distance to get GX to execute the work. I don't think you would ever regret it.
